Let’s call this a little baby sequel to An Avalanche of Detour Signs, featuring a week in the life of Molly Hooper and Greg Lestrade.

There’s an unseasonably hot week at the tail-end of May, and Greg gets tangled up in a nice little mess of a case; there’s a very public bank robbery with a very private murder two doors up the street, and though it’s obvious there’s a connection, it’s a mystery as to what. Molly’s long since used to text messages that say nothing but “Something new, calling in Sherlock, may be hours yet,” and the like, so when she gets one that reads, “En route to Bart’s, fair warning, Sherlock has deemed ‘interesting,’ may need your a-game,” she smiles and clears her afternoon.

It is interesting. The body’s been shot three times, wounds consistent with time of death, but there are obvious signs of poisoning. She’ll have to do a full autopsy, and Sherlock immediately offers to stay for the duration, which makes both Greg and John pull a face.

“It’s fascinating,” Sherlock says indignantly.

“It’s a little disgusting,” John says.

“No offense, Mols,” Greg adds.

“None taken,” she says, relaxed. She knows Greg’s proud of her and what she does, they’re both comfortably aware that her tolerance for extended corpse-time isn’t exactly standard issue. He quirks a little smile at her, and Molly goes back to work, mostly tuning out Sherlock’s continued expressions of appreciation for the internal workings of the human body.
